Romanesque style developed between centuries. Romanesque buildings were massive, supported by thick walls and pillars, and had very small and windows. Stone ceilings, which started to replace wooden roofs, were constructed with and cross vaulting. Other characteristic features are lack of ornament, little sculpture inside, wall paintings, later doorways. The two types of buildings that best represent Romanesque style are the and basilica. The greatest examples in our country are rotunda on Říp, Znojmo, Basilica in Prague. Famous abroad examples include Cathedral in England and Cluny monastery in France.
